Wintertime is in full swing here in Central Iowa...along with a sprinkling of spring-like conditions! January and February are not typically considered transitional weather months, but we have already seen several rounds of spring-like conditions and January thaws followed by cold, blustery winds and winter storms. Don’t be caught off-guard...be sure to get a complete weather briefing and be prepared for the rapid changes in flying conditions common during these changeable weather months here in the Midwest.

The Boone Municipal Airport ramp renovation project is nearing completion. New amenities now include a yard light at the fuel pumps (which were moved farther away from the hangar), newly-decorated fuel pumps, new security fencing with a drive-through security gate, new concrete and drains in front of the hangar walk-through door. The fuel pumps are now back up and functioning. You can take a look at the improvements via the Boone Airport “Skycam” on this home page.

As always, many local and transient aircraft, skydiving activities and National Guard operations continue taking advantage of some unseasonably dry, pleasant winter weather, so come out and watch a variety of aircraft using the airport. And, please stop on in for a fresh cup of coffee, a soda or any number of other beverages and some “hangar flying” with local pilots. For those of you looking for a flying get-away, wintertime still offers a handful of flying actives, such as chili-feeds. You can check the Iowa Department of Aviation’s calendar of events for any upcoming state-wide flying events yet this winter and into early spring.

CY Aviation's Cherokee Archer was recently fitted with some exciting new avionics, including a Garmin 430 GPS and Aspen Pro 1000 Primary Flight Display. Give a call to schedule some time in it and check it out! GPS is the future of general aviation, so now is a great time to hop on the GPS bandwagon.

For active fliers, CY Aviation offers flight training, biennial flight reviews, IFR refresher training and TOL currency. Be sure to let us know if we can assist you with your currency requirements. Don’t forget to put on your winterization plates and round up any other winter gear that your plane requires. There is plenty of winter weather left in Iowa!
