H appy winter and Happy Holidays! Though the weather outside if frightful, the Boone Airport is still delightful! Even in the grip of a midwest winter, The Boone Municipal Airport is a great place to observe local and transient aircraft, skydivers when weather permits (see the cool video below!), National Guard operations or to stop in for a fresh cup of coffee and some “hangar flying” with local pilots.

Wintertime also offers some of the most beautiful flying conditions. Few sights are as inspiring as the snow covered fields and towns of Iowa, and wintertime air is often very smooth and stable. Many folks can continue flying through the winter months, altho a few extra layers of warm clothing are always advised. Winter is also a fine time to begin flight training. Important winter flying techniques can be learned and practiced this time of year. And when you aren't in a plane taking lessons or staying proficient, winter provides lots of opportunities to hit the books in preparation for a new pilot rating or certificate.
